Website Development Cost in India: A Buyer's Guide

What actually decides the price of a website, the four scope bands most projects fall into, and how to get quotes you can compare fairly rather than by the bottom line.

Start here

Why nobody can quote a website from one sentence

"How much for a website?" is the same question as "how much for a building?". Five pages of company information and a fifty-page site with a shop, a login and three languages share a name and nothing else. What moves the number is scope, not the word website.

The bands below describe the shapes projects usually take. Find the one that matches what you actually need, then use the checklist further down to get comparable quotes from any supplier — us included.

Scope

The four bands most website projects fall into

Relative scale, not price. Each step up roughly doubles the design, build and testing involved.

Entry

A small presence site: who you are, what you do, and how to reach you. Template-led design with your brand applied, built to load fast and be editable by your team.

  • 4 to 6 pages
  • Contact form and map
  • Basic on-page SEO
  • 2 to 3 weeks

Standard

A working business site designed around what buyers search for: service pages, proof, and a structure built to rank rather than just to exist.

  • 10 to 20 pages
  • Custom design, not a stock theme
  • Blog, careers, case studies
  • SEO groundwork and analytics
  • 4 to 8 weeks

Advanced

A site that does work as well as explain: e-commerce, logins, bookings, or content in more than one language, with integrations into the systems you already run.

  • Shop, portal or booking flows
  • Payments, shipping and tax rules
  • Multilingual or multi-region
  • Integrations with your software
  • 8 to 14 weeks

Platform

The site is really an application with a public front. Custom code, a content team, several user types and an ongoing release cycle rather than a launch date.

  • Custom front end and headless CMS
  • Multiple user roles
  • Performance and scale requirements
  • Released in stages
  • Three months and beyond
Variables

What actually drives the cost

Number of unique page designsTwenty pages using four templates is a much smaller job than eight pages each designed from scratch.
Who writes the contentWaiting on copy is the most common cause of delay; having it written for you is real work and real cost.
Custom design or a themeA stock theme is cheaper and looks like everyone else. Custom design costs more and is worth it when you are being compared.
E-commerce complexityTen products with one price is not the same as a thousand with variants, tiers and tax rules.
IntegrationsAnything that has to talk to your ERP, CRM, courier or accounting software adds design, build and testing.
Migration from an old siteMoving existing content and mapping every old URL protects your rankings — and takes time nobody quotes for by accident.
Languages and regionsEach additional language multiplies content, testing and ongoing maintenance, not just translation.
Speed and accessibility targetsHitting good Core Web Vitals and WCAG AA is deliberate work, not a switch at the end.
After launch

The running costs people forget

None of these are large on their own. Together they are the difference between a site that lasts and one that quietly rots.

Domain and SSL
Renewed annually; the certificate is usually included by the host but must not be allowed to lapse.
Hosting
Scales with traffic and what the site does. A shop needs more than a brochure site.
Maintenance
Core, plugin and library updates, backups and monitoring — monthly, or you are gambling.
Content
New pages, photographs and posts. Sites that are never updated stop earning traffic.
Licences
Themes, plugins, apps and fonts often renew yearly; check what is in the build before you sign.
SEO
Optional, ongoing, and the main reason a site brings enquiries rather than only existing.
India & USA

Building in India for an Indian or a US audience

For India

Chennai and nationwide

Hosting close to your visitors, UPI and Razorpay on the checkout, GST-compliant invoicing, and pages structured for city and state searches as well as national ones.

For the USA

Remote, overlapping hours

US hosting and CDN, Stripe or Authorize.net, sales-tax handling where it applies, and content written for US readers rather than adapted afterwards. Invoices in USD.

Checklist

How to get quotes you can actually compare

✓Give every supplier the same page list and the same list of features.
✓Ask what is excluded, in writing — content, photography, migration, training.
✓Ask who owns the domain, hosting and code at the end.
✓Ask how many revision rounds are included before extra work is billed.
✓Ask what happens to your existing rankings and URLs at launch.
✓Ask what the annual running cost will be, not just the build cost.
✓Ask to see the staging link of a recent project, not just finished screenshots.
✓Be suspicious of any quote given without a single question being asked.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why will you not publish prices?

Because any number published without knowing your scope is either misleading or meaningless. We quote a fixed figure once we know the page list, the features and who is writing the content — usually within a couple of days of a first conversation.

Is a cheaper website always worse?

Not always. A small business with five pages and a clear message does not need a platform build. It is worse when the price was achieved by skipping speed, structure, training or ownership.

WordPress or custom code?

WordPress if your team will publish regularly and the site is content-led. Custom code when the site behaves like an application or has to integrate deeply with your own systems.

How long does a website take?

Four to eight weeks for most business sites once content is flowing. Content is almost always the critical path, not development.

Can we build in stages?

Yes, and it often makes sense: launch the core pages, then add the shop, the blog or the second language as separate stages.
